Q. How is the SUPER • PHASER GOLD different than the other disappointing hair removal products on the market?
A. The SUPER • PHASER GOLD is the first hair removal product that can permanently disable large numbers of hair follicles without the use of needles or probes. This technological breakthrough is called Transcutaneous Electrolysis. All a person needs to do now to accomplish permanent hair removal is to place a set of transcutaneous electrode patches on the skin over the unwanted hair. In a 40-60 minute treatment, the large majority of the hair actively growing above the skin surface is permanently killed. Q How does the SUPER • PHASER GOLD cause hair follicles to never grow another hair?
A. The SUPER • PHASER GOLD uses the same galvanic current that needle electrologists have used for 125 years to permanently disable hair follicles. The major difference is that this new technology DOES NOT involve needles. The current is applied via either electrode patches put on the skin or with a probe passed over the surface of the skin. The galvanic current flows through the special gel or cream absorbed by the hair, down to the base of the hair follicle. When it reaches the base (called the dermal papilla), the current coverts the salt water in the hair follicle into sodium hydroxide (lye). The sodium hydroxide destroys the dermal papilla cells so the hair follicle can never grow another hair. (View illustration)

Q. What exactly are the dermal papilla cells?
A. A hair follicle is actually an indentation of the outside of the skin (the epidermis) which grows down to meet some special cells in the dermis. These special cells are called dermal papilla cells or root cells. It is these cells that control the hair growth process. The day an individual is born, they have all of the dermal papilla cells that they will ever have since they cannot reproduce themselves. Therefore, if a method, like Transcutaneous, is used that can destroy these cells, the hair follicle cannot ever regrow. (View skin anatomy chart...)

Q. When can the dermal papilla cells be destroyed by the machine?
A. The dermal papilla cells can only be destroyed when the hair is in its growing stage (anagen stage). When the hair follicle is in a resting stage, the body protects the dermal papilla cells, making them impossible to destroy. (View hair growth chart...) 

Q. How many hairs can be treated at one time?
A. With the Super-Phaser Gold, you can use up to 12 Transcutaneous electrode patches at one time. This will cover an area about 90 square inches. All of the hairs that are actively growing under these patches will be treated and destroyed permanently. The treatments take about 40-60 minutes for each area treated.

Q. How many total treatments will it take to clear an area of unwanted hair?
A. There is no way to tell how many treatments that a person will need. Hairs grow in cycles, going from actively growing to resting many times in a person’s lifetime. Unfortunately, each hair follicle (there are about 500 per square inch of skin) is on a different schedule from its neighbor. In fact, less than 10% of a person’s hair follicles are growing at any one time. You must wait on all the hairs to grow to successfully treat them. This may take only a few treatments, or it may take many treatments spread out over a year or more. Q. If it takes months to get total clearing of an area, how do you know the machine is adequately treating hairs each time?
A. When each hair is treated, you can see the result by looking at the root end of the hair after it is removed from the skin. If it is not adequately treated, an active growing hair will have a bulb like black ball on the tweezed end of the hair. It will resemble the bulb end of a thermometer (see picture below).
After a SUPER • PHASER GOLD treatment, the hairs that were actively growing should not have a black bulb on them. They will either look like a spear, a pencil point, or have a hook like or threadlike end on them. If they look like any of these, you have done a good treatment.

Q. How much is the average charge for a treatment?
A. This varies, of course, depending on the area of the country, but on average most people will charge between $1.00-$2.00 per minute of treatment. Many will charge a certain charge per patch used. For example, if they are charging $10 per patch used, and 24 patches are needed to treat a full back, the charge would be $240.

Q. What areas of the body can be treated?
A. Any area of the body with unwanted hair can be treated. This includes large areas like the face, neck, underarms, bikini line, back and legs, as well as smaller areas like ears, the nose, and feet.

Q. Can all skin colors and types be treated?
A. Yes. Unlike other methods like lasers, there is no problem treating the lightest, fairest skin or very dark skin.

Q. What about hair color or types. Is there anything that is not treated permanently?
A. One unique thing about Transcutaneous treatments is that all hair types and colors can be treated. This includes hair that is impossible to treat with other methods like white downy vellus hair (“peach fuzz”).
